The Delta State government has shut down six private schools in Oshimili-South Local Government Area for violating operational guidelines and withdrawing the licenses of three others.
Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, disclosed this to journalists in Asaba on Thursday after a routine monitoring exercise across public and private schools in the state.
According to him, Prime Seed of Abraham School, Mater Christi Group of Schools, and Shekinah the King Nursery and Primary School, all located in Okwe, were sealed off for operating without government approval or licenses.
In addition, the operational licenses of All to Jesus Nursery and Primary School, Oduke-Okwe, St Helen Fountain of Roses School, Okwe, and Winners Vineyard Montessori International School, Okwe, Asaba were revoked for flouting regulations.
Their offences ranged from converting school premises into residential apartments, to running secondary education with facilities approved only for primary schools.

Dr. Ashibogwu stressed that the government had consistently cautioned private school operators to regularise their institutions in line with state regulations.
“As a government, our priority is the educational well-being of our children. We have warned on several occasions that owners of schools must comply with the necessary approval processes,” he said.
The commissioner further revealed that some schools were falsely parading themselves as government approved without proper documentation.
He assured that the ministry would sustain regular monitoring to ensure that private schools in the state operate strictly within the law.
