The Delta State government has reiterated its determination to make the welfare of citizens a top priority, assuring that development projects executed by the state will continue to meet high standards and deliver lasting value to the people.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Festus Ahon, stated this on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, when members of the Delta State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Ahon said the Oborevwori administration remains resolute in pursuing people-oriented policies despite the wide-ranging infrastructural and developmental needs across Delta State.

According to him, the governor has placed the welfare of Deltans at the centre of governance, a philosophy that has guided the execution of several capital projects and social intervention programmes currently ongoing in different parts of the state.

He noted that within two years, the administration has recorded achievements that surpass what some states have attained over much longer periods, stressing that the projects are deliberately designed to be durable and impactful.

“These are not cosmetic projects. They are meant to endure and to deliver real value to the people. This administration is determined to ensure that every project executed justifies the resources committed to it,” Ahon said.

He further explained that the government has maintained financial prudence, pointing out that ongoing projects are being funded without borrowing.

“The governor is very clear about safeguarding the welfare of Deltans, and none of these projects is being financed through loans,” he added.

Ahon thanked the NUJ leadership for the visit and called for continuous collaboration between the media and the government in promoting peace, stability and development in the state.

He assured journalists of the administration’s continued support, describing Gov. Oborevwori as media-friendly and committed to improving the working conditions and welfare of journalists.

“We need your partnership because development thrives where there is peace and understanding. This government will continue to support the media in the discharge of its responsibilities,” he said.

Ahon also assured the NUJ that their requests would be given due consideration, noting that his office remains open to the union as a link between journalists and the state government.

Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Churchill Oyowe, said the visit was to express gratitude to Gov. Oborevwori and to commend the chief press secretary for his inclusive and supportive disposition towards journalists across the state, particularly during the Christmas season.

Oyowe said the recent gesture of the state government, facilitated through the chief press secretary’s office, reached all NUJ chapels in the state, describing it as unprecedented and warmly appreciated by members.

He urged the state government to sustain the goodwill and reminded Ahon of the council’s outstanding requests, including the provision of a utility bus and a 200kva step-down transformer.

“Today, we are here to say thank you,” Oyowe said. “All the chapels benefited from the gesture, and we deeply appreciate the support and concern shown by the government through your office.”
