The Delta State Police Command has prosecuted no fewer than 68 traffic offenders in Warri and Asaba as part of a renewed crackdown on violations across major roads in the state.

The enforcement exercise, carried out in collaboration with mobile courts and magistrates, targeted motorists flouting traffic regulations, which authorities say contribute to insecurity and road accidents.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the offenders were arraigned at mobile courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at the Magistrate Court in Okwe.

Breakdown of the offences shows that seven individuals were charged for unauthorised use of number plates, while five were prosecuted for driving against traffic. Fifteen offenders were arraigned for driving without registration numbers, while two were charged for illegal use of sirens and revolving lights.

The police also prosecuted 15 persons for road obstruction, 13 for using covered number plates, and 11 for driving without valid driver’s licences.

The command noted that vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates are frequently used to evade security checks and perpetrate crimes.

“All offenders were fined in line with the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations,” the statement said.

The police added that the operation forms part of a broader strategy by the state government to curb rising traffic violations and improve public safety.

It further disclosed ongoing collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency to strengthen enforcement and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

The command urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, properly register their vehicles, and carry valid driving licences, warning that it would sustain a zero-tolerance approach to violations across the state.
