The Delta State Police Command on Wednesday convened a high-level security meeting with heads of public and private schools across the state in a proactive effort to safeguard students and school facilities.
The meeting, held under the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alongside ACP George Efeizomor, Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, and other key education stakeholders.
A total of 62 school heads and teachers attended the engagement, which focused on reinforcing school security in light of recent nationwide reports of student abductions. Key topics included fencing school premises, installing surveillance cameras, engaging local vigilantes, improving collaboration between schools and security agencies, and addressing emerging challenges such as parental interference and mobile phone misuse during school hours.

While describing Delta State as “relatively peaceful,” the police called on school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to remain vigilant and actively support ongoing security measures to protect students, teachers, and school infrastructure.
