The Delta State Police Command has presented cheques worth over ₦16.6 million to families of officers who died in active service, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.
At a ceremony held in Asaba on Thursday, April 2, the Command disbursed a total of ₦16,679,749.92 to thirteen beneficiaries. The gesture, according to the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
Describing the event as solemn yet significant, Oyeniyi assured the recipients that the sacrifices of their loved ones would never be forgotten. He urged them to make judicious use of the support provided, stressing that the Force would continue to stand by them.

One of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of the families, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta Command. He noted that the financial support would go a long way in easing the burdens faced by the families of the fallen officers.
The cheque presentation marked the conclusion of week-long activities in Delta State ahead of the grand finale of the National Police Week scheduled to hold at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reaffirmed that the initiative underscores the Force’s resolve to honour the memory of officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
