Delta State operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team have arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered the sum of ₦3.1 million, believed to be part of a ransom paid for the release of a kidnapped victim.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda on Thursday, the arrest was made on May 12, 2025, at about 9:30 AM during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Kwale/Ozoro Expressway.

He said; “Officers intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna bus conveying passengers from Ughelli en route to Asaba.

“Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, officers discovered ₦3.1 million in cash concealed in the possession of four male suspects identified as: Abubakar Alwalu, 25 years; Usman Husseini, 25 years; Adamu Mohammed, 30 years and Anwalu Umaru, 23 years.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a five-man kidnapping syndicate responsible for the recent abduction of a woman from her residence in Ughelli. The victim was held captive for four days, during which a ransom of ₦4 million was reportedly paid on May 11, 2025.

“The victim has since identified the four suspects as part of the gang that abducted her. The fifth suspect remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” he stated.

The police say investigations are continuing, and the arrested individuals will be prosecuted upon conclusion of the inquiry.

“Similarly, On the 10/05/2025 at about 1759hrs, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) trailed, and arrested a suspected kidnapper and gang leader named Abdullahi Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 22yrs of Ekenwa Community in Ovia North-East LGA of Edo State at Ore town of Ondo State.

“The suspect led the operative to the arrest of another suspects and member of his gang known as Adamu Usman ‘m’ 24yrs of Abeokuta both taking refuge in Ore town.

“Upon interrogation suspects led operatives to a forest along Ore-Lagos expressway by popular area called “stepdown” where one AK 47 rifle loaded with fourteen (14) rounds of live ammunition and a locally made long gun wit it six (6) rounds of live cartridges were recovered. Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
