A notorious gun-running syndicate has been dismantled by operatives of the Delta State Police Command, leading to the shocking arrest of a couple involved in illegal arms sales.
Acting on credible intelligence, a sting operation was carried out at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Bogbon Godwell in Okpe Local Government Area, where law enforcement officers uncovered their illicit activities.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement released in Asaba today.
According to him, “On March 9, 2025, at about 2:30 PM, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) stormed the couple’s residence. A fabricated Beretta pistol with a single live round of ammunition, intended for delivery to a client in Sapele, was recovered.”
Further investigations revealed that Mrs. Uche Joshua acted as the primary dispatcher, confessing to delivering multiple arms to clients in Warri and Sapele under her husband’s instructions.

Additionally, police arrested another gang member, 30-year-old Junior Moses Ogedegbe from Useifurun community in Ughelli South LGA. Authorities are intensifying efforts to recover more arms and track down other members of the syndicate.
In a related development, police operatives cracked down on a group of suspected kidnappers and internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo Boys, operating in Jesse and Mosogar towns.
SP Bright Edafe stated that, “In response to the rising cases of cultism and kidnapping in the area, CP Special Assignment Team operatives launched a coordinated raid on March 9, 2025, around 6:30 AM, leading to the arrest of Festus Oboyo, a 26-year-old suspected kidnapper and internet fraudster from Igbopa community in Ethiope West LGA.”
During the operation, a locally made gun with a single cartridge was recovered from the suspect’s apartment. Investigators also found an FBI impersonation document featuring his picture, which he allegedly used to defraud unsuspecting victims online.
Further interrogations led to the arrest of two other gang members: 29-year-old Favor Omowo, aka Voltage, and 26-year-old Gift Omowo, both from Jesse community.
Police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on criminal activities in the state, promising that more arrests will follow.
