The Delta State government has announced plans to create a task force aimed at monitoring the actions of housing agents, especially in light of increasing housing costs in the state.
The state Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, disclosed this during a visit by members of the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
“We intend to establish a task force to oversee the actions of housing agents in the state. For many years, these agents have engaged in practices that are concerning and often exploitative for residents,” Angele explained.
“To address this, our ministry has developed strategies to regulate their activities and stop any unfair practices that take advantage of our community members.”
The commissioner also highlighted that his ministry is currently working on renovating government buildings across the state.
He mentioned that maintaining and renovating the structures is one of the ministry’s key responsibilities.
Additionally, the ministry is involved in resolving property and land-related issues on behalf of the state government.

On the achievements of his ministry, Angele noted that over 30 one-bedroom apartments at the 181 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Agbor will soon be inaugurated.
Furthermore, he mentioned that 40 one-bedroom self-contained units at the Admiralty University in Ibusa, near Asaba, have been completed and are awaiting official opening.
Chairman of the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Mr. Ifeanyi Olannye, praised the commissioner for his leadership.
He said the visit is aimed at building a stronger partnership between the chapel, the ministry, and the state government to support the development goals of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“As journalists, we believe it’s our duty to hold the government and public officials accountable for their actions,” Olannye stated.
“Your ministry plays a crucial role in the growth of our state. We encourage you to continue your efforts to tackle the urgent issue of housing shortages, particularly for civil servants and other residents.”
He expressed the hope that the partnership would lead to further improvements in the housing sector and help to manage rising rental costs in the state.
