Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, inviting Swedish investors to explore the vast economic opportunities available in the state.
Gov. Oborevwori made this known on Tuesday, while welcoming the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn Englund, during her official visit to Delta State.
The governor expressed his delight at hosting the ambassador and her delegation, emphasizing Delta State’s strategic economic position in Nigeria.
He highlighted the state’s peace, stability, and infrastructure as key factors that make it an attractive destination for foreign investment.
“Delta State is a peaceful state and one of Nigeria’s key economic hubs. We are open for business and committed to creating an enabling environment for investors,” he stated.

The governor further noted that Delta State is well-connected, boasting three major airports, the Asaba International Airport, Osubi Airstrip, and the Nigerian Air Force Base, which enhance transportation and logistics, making it easier for businesses to operate seamlessly.
Gov. Oborevwori outlined key investment-friendly policies and incentives in the state, pointing to designated special economic zones such as, the Warri Free Trade Zone and the Ogwashi-Uku Industrial Park.
He explained that these zones offer attractive incentives such as tax holidays and duty-free import and export benefits to encourage investment and industrialization, assuring prospective investors that the state provides relevant information and support to ensure smooth business operations.
“Our state guarantees profitability because no one invests without the expectation of returns. A peaceful and stable environment fosters economic growth, and we are committed to maintaining this,” he assured.
The governor also underscored the long-standing diplomatic and economic relationship between Nigeria and Sweden, which dates back to 1961.
He expressed optimism that the Swedish ambassador’s visit will strengthen ties and encourage more Swedish companies to take advantage of the investment opportunities in Delta State.
Ambassador Annika Hahn Englund commended the governor and the people of Delta State for their warm reception. She expressed Sweden’s keen interest in expanding trade and investment ties with Nigeria, particularly in green and digital sectors.
“The embassy prioritizes strengthening and promoting bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment. Swedish companies play an important role in infrastructure, transportation, technology, energy, health, education, and agriculture,” the ambassador stated.
She revealed that six Swedish companies are currently engaged in these sectors in Nigeria, and more are looking to explore opportunities, including in Delta State.
The envoy also mentioned the role of Business Sweden, the Swedish trade and investment agency, which is set to open a trade office in Lagos to further facilitate business between the two nations.
The ambassador acknowledged Delta State’s historical ties with Swedish businesses, particularly Land Rover, and highlighted recent engagements between the two countries, including visits by Nigerian officials to Sweden.
“We recognize the importance of building relationships with key states and expanding our knowledge and networks, which is why we are here today,” she added.
