The Delta State Government has joined the media community in mourning the death of respected broadcaster and journalist, Vivian Nkechika, whose passing has been described as a major blow to the state’s broadcast industry.
Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, expressed deep sorrow over her death, extending heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Asaba, as well as members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State chapter.
In a condolence message issued in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu described the late Vivian Nkechika as a consummate professional whose distinctive voice, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to ethical journalism left a lasting imprint on broadcasting in Delta State.

He recalled that Nkechika, an indigene of Ekwuoma in Ika North East Local Government Area, rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Manager in the Programmes Department of DBS, Asaba, where she served with dedication and distinction. According to him, her years of service earned her the respect of colleagues and endeared her to listeners and viewers across the state.
Aniagwu said the news of her passing came as a rude shock, particularly at a time when her depth of experience, mentorship, and professional guidance were still greatly needed within the media industry.
The commissioner described the late broadcaster as disciplined, hardworking, and deeply passionate about her profession, noting that she upheld the core values of journalism and contributed significantly to public enlightenment and social development in Delta State.
He sympathised with the management and staff of DBS, the leadership and members of the NUJ in Delta State, and the immediate family of the deceased, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the painful and irreparable loss.
Aniagwu also prayed for the peaceful repose of Vivian Nkechika’s soul, urging her colleagues in the media to uphold and sustain the legacy of professionalism, integrity, and excellence for which she was widely known.
He noted that although she has passed on, her contributions to broadcasting and journalism in Delta State will remain enduring, continuing to inspire a new generation of media practitioners.
