Traditional rulers in Delta State have called on the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to take a firmer, more strategic approach to securing the nation’s critical infrastructure, especially in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
The appeal came during a meeting of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council (DSTRC), held in Asaba and presided by the Council’s First Vice Chairman and Pere of Akugbene Mein, His Royal Majesty Pere S.P. Kalanama VIII.
The monarchs emphasized the urgent need for a robust and responsive security framework to protect key federal assets, particularly oil facilities in the maritime areas and other vital infrastructure throughout the country.
In a five-point communiqué delivered by Pere Kalanama VIII, the royal fathers also advised the Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria to be proactive in safeguarding the nation’s road infrastructure. According to them, securing the roads is essential for ensuring the safety of millions of daily road users nationwide.
During the meeting, the monarchs extended their congratulations to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the successful hosting of the 9th National Youth Games.

The traditional rulers also received two important guests during the session: the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Chinedu Fabian Igbo, who sought the support and prayers of the traditional institution, particularly in sharing intelligence to help him carry out his duties effectively; and the Executive Chairman of the Joint National Transport Safety Committee, Engr. Amb. Mogbojuri Taiwo.
