The Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Godwin Ogorugba, has announced the commencement of new minimum wage payments, effective from November 2024. Speaking at a screening event for Isoko North teachers held at the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) hall in Ozoro, Ogorugba emphasized that the initiative aligns with directives from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Ogorugba clarified that the ongoing screening is designed not as a punitive measure but to establish an accurate framework for implementing the new minimum wage. He expressed appreciation to Delta State Local Government Commission Chairman Joseph Otiwe and his team for facilitating the screening exercise and thanked the council’s workforce for their steadfast support during his election and administration.
“Our goal is to promote unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to achieving the objectives set by my administration,” Ogorugba stated, urging all employees to remain engaged and supportive.
Joseph Otiwe, Chairman of the Delta State Local Government Commission, who oversaw the screening exercise, commended the local council’s efforts to uplift primary education standards. He acknowledged the dedication of the screening team and encouraged patience among those awaiting their turn.

“We appreciate Chairman Ogorugba’s administration for their full support of this initiative, which is vital for the smooth implementation of the new wage structure,” Otiwe remarked.
In a related development, Ogorugba has issued a 90-day deadline for the removal of illegal structures and unauthorized traders operating along key routes, including Ozoro-Kwale Road, NDC, Ala Square through Hospital Road, Ozoro-Oleh, Urude Road, and Ozoro-Owhelogbo Road. The council has mandated that these structures be cleared by January 2025 or face demolition.
“Non-compliance will lead to the demolition of unauthorized structures and seizure of goods. This measure is essential for ensuring public safety, order, and smooth traffic flow,” Ogorugba declared, adding that traders must relocate to designated areas.
The newly inaugurated Environmental Task Force, led by Emmanuel Evuera, has been empowered to enforce this directive. Ogorugba added.
