The Delta State Government has taken a decisive step against corruption and negligence by demoting two engineers who certified incomplete road projects as completed. The affected officers, Engr. Gabriel Evuarhere and Engr. Samuel Nwokolobia, have been demoted from Deputy Director to Assistant Director and from Assistant Director to Chief Engineer, respectively.
This disciplinary action follows a report from an investigative committee, as conveyed in a letter signed by William O. Ogolokpe on behalf of the Head of Service.
According to the official statement, Engr. Evuarhere was found guilty of corruption, dishonesty, and failure to follow due process, leading to his demotion from Deputy Director (Civil Engineer) SGL 16 to Assistant Director (Civil Engineer) SGL 15, effective January 1, 2024. Similarly, Engr. Nwokolobia faced the same charges and was demoted from Assistant Director (Civil Engineer) SGL 15 to Chief Civil Engineer SGL 14, with the same effective date.

The disciplinary letter further stated that their next promotions to Deputy Director and Assistant Director would now take effect on January 1, 2028, and January 1, 2027, respectively.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had previously issued a stern warning that there would be no exceptions in his administration’s quest to ensure quality project execution and accountability in Delta State.
At a recent event in Asaba, the governor, while demonstrating both firmness and compassion, appealed to the disciplinary committee to reduce the punishment from outright dismissal to rank reduction. However, he made it clear that future offenders would face the full weight of the law.
This crackdown on corruption sends a strong message that the Delta State Government is committed to transparency and high standards in project execution, ensuring that public funds are used efficiently for the benefit of all Deltans.
