Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to avoid unnecessary travels that could expose them to road accidents.

The governor gave the warning during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Trakiriowei Harry ThankGod, Governor Oborevwori expressed concern over the rising number of corps members involved in road accidents across the country. He described the trend as avoidable and urged corps members to prioritize their safety above all else.

“I must sound a note of caution. Records show that the leading cause of deaths among corps members is road traffic accidents, often caused by needless journeys. Please reduce your travels and only embark on trips when necessary and approved. Your families, communities, and the nation have invested so much in you. We want to see all of you complete your service year safely,” he said.

The governor also appealed to employers across Delta State to support corps members posted to their organizations and communities. He urged them to provide a welcoming environment that will help the young graduates settle in and contribute meaningfully to their places of assignment.

“Treat these corps members as part of your establishment, not as outsiders. Their ideas, energy, and creativity are valuable resources that can help strengthen your institutions and the state at large,” Oborevwori added.
Earlier in his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, encouraged corps members to see their service year as a chance to contribute to nation-building. He advised them to be disciplined, innovative, and open-minded in their engagements with host communities.

“Approach your host communities with humility and a willingness to serve. Let your actions promote unity, peace, and progress throughout your service year,” Kwaghe said.
The ceremony marked the end of the orientation exercise, with hundreds of corps members set to begin their primary assignments across Delta State.
