Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will gladly welcome former Governor James Ibori into its fold, fueling political speculations and realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
The Governor made the remark on Tuesday during a solemn vigil mass held in honour of the late former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Professor Amos Utuama, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Otu-Jeremi, in Ughelli South Local Government Area. The event drew political heavyweights, religious leaders, and members of the Urhobo nation, all united in celebrating the life and legacy of one of Delta’s most respected statesmen.
While paying glowing tribute to the late Prof. Utuama, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the urgent need for unity among the Urhobo political class. He noted that the death of Utuama should serve as a wake-up call to bridge divides and foster collaboration for the good of Delta State and Nigeria at large. “We would gladly welcome our leader, Chief James Ibori, to the APC,” he said, underscoring his commitment to political reconciliation and a united front.
Reflecting on Utuama’s selfless contributions, the Governor recalled how the late Deputy Governor donated his allocated land in Asaba to the Catholic Church during his time in office, and also helped build a place of worship. “To me, that is a kingdom investment,” Oborevwori said, describing Utuama’s legacy as one that transcends politics.

Oborevwori further prayed that the passing of Prof. Utuama would usher in a new era of peace and unity for Ughelli South and the broader Urhobo nation. “He lived well and died well,” he concluded, urging all to emulate Utuama’s values of service and humility.
The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Most Rev. Anthony Ewherido, in his sermon, affirmed that Utuama’s life was a beacon of light, both in the Church and in society. He called on political leaders to carry on his legacy of godliness, charity, and humility. The Bishop emphasized that the death of a Christian is not the end but a transition to eternal glory, and he urged all present to accept Christ for salvation.
Family representative Mr. Ovie Utuama thanked attendees for their support during the mourning period, and called for continued prayers as the family navigates their grief.
