About 10,000 widows enrolled in the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have received their February 2026 stipends from the state government, as beneficiaries across the three senatorial districts held prayer and thanksgiving sessions for the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
The prayer gatherings were led by the coordinator of the scheme and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Elder Isioma Okonta, who toured communities across the state with members of the programme’s management team.
During a visit to the Delta Central Senatorial District in Okpe Local Government Area, Okonta described the Widows Welfare Scheme as one of the key social intervention programmes of the state government. He said the initiative continues to ease the hardship faced by thousands of widows across Delta.
According to him, the programme reflects the policy direction of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori under the MORE Agenda, which places emphasis on social protection, inclusive growth and support for vulnerable citizens.
Okonta explained that the consistent payment of monthly stipends has helped many widows meet essential needs and restore a measure of stability to their households. He added that the programme has become an important support structure for families who lost their breadwinners.
At the conclusion of the visits, beneficiaries gathered for prayers and thanksgiving, expressing appreciation to the governor for sustaining the welfare scheme. Many of the widows described the programme as a lifeline that has helped them cope with the challenges of daily living.

Several participants also commended Okonta’s leadership of the initiative, noting that the management team had ensured regular engagement with beneficiaries and prompt payment of stipends.
Similar prayer sessions were held in Ozoro in Isoko South Local Government Area within Delta South Senatorial District, as well as in Ndokwa West Local Government Area in Delta North Senatorial District, where beneficiaries offered prayers for the continued success of the state government.
Okonta said the tour also served to sensitise beneficiaries on the objectives of the MORE Agenda while encouraging them to remain supportive of government programmes designed to improve social welfare.
He urged the widows to continue to serve as ambassadors of the governor in their communities by promoting peace, unity and cooperation with government initiatives.
The events concluded with an endorsement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori by beneficiaries of the scheme, who pledged continued support for his administration.

Uko Martins, Head of Delta South Monitoring Team, Mr. Felix Ofuo, Comrade Ahmed Atumremuro, Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Sunday Achike, Project Accountant Mr. Ogaga Kelvin, Training Officer Mr. Henry Ifeogwu, Project Assistant Chioma Okunebe, Coordinator for Ndokwa West Barrister Mrs. Omude Ochonogor Ochibe, and Ambassador Carolyn Usikpedo, Coordinator for Isoko North Local Government Area, among others.
