The Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu JP, has criticized the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over delayed exam papers.
She urged them to improve its delivery system for exam materials and make sure they arrive on time throughout the state.
Her comments come after a troubling video surfaced on social media, showing students at Unity Model Secondary School in Asaba taking their exams under flashlight, as the exam question papers were late arriving on May 22, 2025.
In response to this situation, Mrs. Ezewu highlighted that while WAEC operates independently, the well-being of students in Delta State is a significant concern for the government.
According to her, she wants to ensure that students have the best possible experience during their exams.
She explained that the physics exam papers arrived at Unity Model Secondary School four hours later than they were supposed to.

After learning about this delay, she reached out to the WAEC office in Asaba to ask what happened and to express the state government’s dissatisfaction with the situation.
Mrs. Ezewu also noted that there were similar delays reported during other recent national values exams at several schools in the Udu and Okpe local government areas.
She criticized WAEC for not planning adequately for the distribution of exam materials and warned that such issues cannot continue to happen.
She is calling on WAEC to take immediate action to solve these delivery problems so that exams can proceed smoothly and students can focus on their studies without added stress.
