Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, on Wednesday, received the report of the Committee tasked with probing allegations of certificate racketeering at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and reviewing the suspension of implicated staff.
The presentation, which was held at Government House, Asaba, was attended by senior government officials, including the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari.
Sir Onyeme commended the committee for what he described as a thorough and transparent exercise.
“I must commend the chairman and members of this committee for doing an excellent job. Your findings are clear, particularly on the sensitive matter of certificate racketeering. We will prepare an executive summary for His Excellency, the Governor, to enable decisive action based on your recommendations,” the Deputy Governor assured.

Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman and Deputy Chief of Staff, Sir Christopher Osakwe, recalled that the panel was inaugurated on March 25, 2025, with a mandate to investigate allegations of fraudulent certificate issuance, review disciplinary measures taken against affected staff, and recommend reforms to safeguard institutional integrity.
“The committee’s work focused on three critical areas: establishing the veracity of certificate racketeering claims, evaluating the suspension process of the staff involved, and offering recommendations on corrective measures and sanctions,” Osakwe explained.
Other members of the committee included Mr. William Ogolokpe, Director of Personnel Management, Office of the Head of Service; Mr. Gabriel Eze-Owens, Director of Advisory Services, Ministry of Justice; Mr. Ikechukwu Maduemezie of the Civil Service Commission; Mr. Henry Akombe, Director of Accounts, Office of the Accountant-General; Dr. (Mrs.) Erere Joy, Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic; and Mrs. Bridget Odobor from the Ministry of Higher Education.
