The Agadama community in Uwheru Kingdom of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has been thrown into mourning after suspected Fulani herdsmen killed a farmer, Mr. Godwin Eyibrokere.

The deceased was reportedly killed on February 25, 2025, at his farm where he had gone to harvest his palm trees at Agadama, a community under Uwheru Kingdom.

While the remains of the deceased have been recovered from the scene of the incident, the late Eyibrokere’s business partner, Mr. Okeoghene Mason, who was also attacked by the herdsmen, is still missing following the attack.

Meanwhile, the Senator Ede Dafinone, has condemned the killing of the deceased, and called on the federal government to intervene in the growing tension in the community.

Sen. Dafinone frowned at the failure of the security agencies, and the federal government to end the incessant herdsmen attacks on peaceful farmers in Uwheru communities in the state.

While sympathising with the family of Mr. Eyibrokere, and the entire Uwheru Kingdom over the incident, the Delta Central senator, noted that the failure of security agencies to protect the lives of his constituents has gone on for far too long.

In a statement on Saturday, the senator charged the federal and Delta State governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently rise to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property.

He observed that the recent senseless killing was yet another reminder of the persistent, and unchecked attacks on farmers, and innocent citizens in Uwheru and other parts of Urhoboland by marauding herdsmen.

Sen. Dafinone noted that attacks by herdsmen on innocent farmers in their own land, if not checked by government could lead to a further breakdown of law and order.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal killing of Mr. Godwin Devetarakpo Eyibrokere, who was murdered in cold blood by suspected Fulani herdsmen on February 25, 2025, at approximately 11:48am in Agadama Village, Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

“Mr. Eyibrokere was simply carrying out his daily livelihood, tapping palm trees on a farm close to the town, when he was attacked and killed. His companion, Mr. Okeoghene Mason, who was also attacked, remains missing as of today.

“This tragic and senseless killing is yet another reminder of the persistent, and unchecked attacks on farmers and innocent citizens in Uwheru, and other parts of Urhobo land. It is unacceptable that our people cannot go about their daily activities without fear of being attacked, kidnapped or killed.

“These acts of violence are not only a direct assault on the fundamental right to life, but also a grave threat to the security, economy, and food production in our communities.

“I strongly condemn this latest attack, and the continued reign of terror unleashed by armed herdsmen in Uwheru and across Delta Central.

“The failure to protect our people has gone on for far too long, and I call on the federal and Delta State governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently rise to their responsibilities. Enough is enough.

“The government must take decisive action to end these killings, secure our farmlands, and bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Eyibrokere, and to the entire Uwheru Kingdom. No family should have to endure such pain and loss.

“I also urge community leaders, civil society organisations, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join me in demanding immediate action from the authorities to protect the lives and livelihoods of our people.

“The time for mere words is over—we demand security, justice, and peace for Uwheru and all of Delta Central,” the senator said.
