Efforts to strengthen grassroots security in Delta State received a boost as Emevor Kingdom partnered with the Department of State Services to conduct a capacity building training for members of the Emevor Vigilante Group.

The exercise, held in Emevor community, brought together local vigilante operatives and a three man team from the Department of State Services deployed from its headquarters. The team was led by Mr Oshiomha Januarius, who said the training was structured to provide practical knowledge and professional guidance for effective community policing.

According to Januarius, the programme focused on equipping participants with operational skills, intelligence gathering techniques and lawful engagement procedures necessary for combating crime at the grassroots level. He stressed that community based security outfits must operate within established legal frameworks while remaining proactive in preventing criminal activities.

The DSS team was received by the President General of Emevor Kingdom, High Chief Emmanuel Erezih, widely known as Okpomo, alongside members of his executive council. Community leaders commended the security agency for responding to their request and supporting local efforts to maintain peace.

Speaking at the event, Dr Daniel Oruoghome, one of the trainees, described the initiative as timely and necessary. He said empowering vigilante members with structured security training would improve their capacity to protect lives and property while fostering closer collaboration with formal security agencies.

Community leaders noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment between the DSS and Emevor Kingdom to proactive crime prevention and improved intelligence at the local level. They expressed confidence that the training would enhance coordination between vigilantes and state security services, thereby reducing criminal threats in the area.

As insecurity continues to challenge several communities across Nigeria, the Emevor DSS collaboration is being viewed as a model for community policing and security sector partnership in Delta State.
