Tensions are high in Delta State after a man, identified as Omoboy, was tragically killed following a heated altercation in the Ekakpamre community, Ughelli South Local Government Area. The incident, which escalated over a simple stare, has sparked fear of violent retaliation between neighboring communities.
The conflict began when Omoboy, a native of Usiefurun, allegedly stared at an unidentified Ekakpamre resident. A verbal argument quickly turned violent, resulting in Omoboy being struck on the head with a power bank. Witnesses say Omoboy collapsed immediately and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
As news of Omoboy’s death spread, tensions skyrocketed between Usiefurun and Ekakpamre. Outraged youths from Usiefurun mobilized, threatening to burn houses in Ekakpamre in retaliation. Fear of an all-out clash between the two communities has grown, as locals brace for potential violence.

In an effort to prevent a full-blown crisis, community leaders from both sides intervened. Edafe Kporharo, President General of Ekakpamre Community, confirmed the situation and reported that local authorities, including the Ughelli Area Commander and Otu-Jeremi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), have been notified. Leaders are set to meet to calm the rising tensions and ensure peace is restored.
“The suspect involved in the killing remains at large, but we are working closely with the police to bring him to justice,” Kporharo said.
The tragic death of Omoboy has left both communities on edge, with many fearing the violence could spiral out of control. Despite the swift intervention of leaders, the potential for retaliation remains high, with locals urging for calm and justice.
