The Delta State Government on Monday commissioned eight new four-bedroom duplexes with attached boys’ quarters at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba.
The residential project, unveiled by the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, brings the total number of official residences at the estate from 22 to 30, allowing more commissioners to live within the designated government quarters.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized that the purpose of the project is to address the long-standing shortage of official housing for cabinet members and to create a more cohesive and efficient administrative team.
“Over the years, the number of houses here became insufficient to accommodate all commissioners. Some had to live in rented apartments or personal homes.
“That weakened the sense of community and teamwork that should exist among commissioners,” the governor noted.
He stressed that living together in a common environment encourages daily interaction, boosts morale, and enhances coordination among members of the State Executive Council.
“When you live together, it reduces stress, improves communication, and strengthens the bond among team members.
“There’s steady electricity here, opportunities to exercise, and a chapel to start your day in God’s presence. All these contribute to mental, physical, and emotional well-being,” he added.

The governor further acknowledged that several other state projects are nearing completion and hinted at adopting a streamlined approach to future project inaugurations.
“We have so many projects to commission. We may not be able to do all of them individually, so like the president did recently, we will consolidate them and commission multiple projects from a central location,” he said.
Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, who oversaw the project, praised the governor for personally monitoring the development from groundbreaking to completion.
He described the housing units as modern, functional, and fully equipped with amenities that meet contemporary standards.
“Each of these eight new duplexes features four bedrooms, two boys’ quarters, a spacious kitchen, lounge, and other modern fittings.
“This project was executed peacefully and efficiently in partnership with ABI Project Concept,” Angele said.
He added that with the new additions, the Commissioners’ Quarters now boasts 30 units, helping to significantly reduce the reliance on external accommodation and promoting a stronger sense of government presence.
The event was attended by the deputy governor, the deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, the state chief judge, members of the State Executive Council, party leaders, traditional rulers, and senior government officials.
