The Delta State Government has announced a major expansion of its rural infrastructure and security initiatives as part of preparations for the 2025 fiscal year, signaling a renewed drive toward inclusive growth and regional stability.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved a significant increase in funding for rural road projects, raising allocations from ₦1 billion per local government area in 2024 to ₦2.1 billion for 2025, with a further jump to ₦5 billion projected for 2026. The move reflects the administration’s commitment to improving rural connectivity, driving economic inclusion, and ensuring that every community benefits from government investment.
Speaking in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the measure forms part of the governor’s broader vision to bring development closer to the people. “Our focus is to ensure that every community, regardless of size or population, enjoys access to basic infrastructure. The governor believes that development must be balanced and far-reaching,” he said.
Aniagwu also clarified the state’s fiscal position, stressing that despite offsetting ₦8.4 billion in inherited contractual obligations owed to DESOPADEC, the Oborevwori administration has maintained strong financial stability through disciplined project management and timely payments to contractors.

In a parallel move, the government launched the Delta State Security Trust Fund, a new framework designed to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies through private sector collaboration and inter-agency coordination. The fund is expected to enhance logistics, intelligence gathering, and mobility, thereby creating a safer environment for residents and investors across the state.
“Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution makes the security and welfare of citizens the government’s top priority,” Aniagwu noted. “This fund ensures we meet that constitutional responsibility efficiently and sustainably.”
These initiatives are core to the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration, which emphasizes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. By aligning infrastructure growth with security enhancement, the government aims to lay the foundation for long-term prosperity across Delta’s 25 local government areas.
With these measures, Governor Oborevwori is positioning Delta as a model of fiscal prudence, balanced development, and proactive governance in Nigeria’s South-South region.
