The Delta State House of Assembly has officially lifted the suspension of Hon. Chukwudi Dafe (Ukwuani Constituency) and Hon. Oboro Preyor (Bomadi Constituency). Their suspension, initially imposed for alleged gross misconduct, expired after 14 legislative days.

During Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor announced the reinstatement of the lawmakers. He revealed that although the investigative committee set up to probe the allegations against them had yet to submit its findings, the legislators were recalled as their suspension period had elapsed.

In addition to reinstating the lawmakers, the Assembly proceeded with deliberations on crucial legislative matters. Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi introduced a Bill to establish the Delta State Food Security Agency, which aims to address agricultural sustainability and ensure food security in the state. The motion for the bill’s first reading, seconded by Hon. Bridget Anyafulu (Oshimili South Constituency), received unanimous approval.

Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo also presented a Bill seeking to repeal the 2008 Delta State Waste Management Board Law. The proposed legislation aims to modernize the framework for waste collection, management, and disposal across the state. This motion, seconded by Hon. Matthew Omonade (Ughelli North 1 Constituency), was similarly passed for the first reading and slated for a second reading on January 28, 2025.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Hon. Matthew Omonade, submitted its report on the alleged trespass on cooperative land in Achala Ibusa, Oshimili North. However, the Assembly requested that the report be revised for clarity and resubmitted.

Before adjourning, Speaker Guwor extended warm holiday wishes, wishing all Deltans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
