The Delta State House of Assembly has raised the 2025 budget proposal presented by the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, by 7.3 percent, citing the need for increased infrastructural development across the state.
As a result, the legislators announced an approved budget of N979 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, up from the N936 billion initially proposed by the governor.
With this increment, the capital budget for 2025 now stands at N630.5 billion, an increase from the earlier sum of N587.3 billion.
Meanwhile, the recurrent expenditure was marginally increased by N50 million, bringing it to N348.76 billion, compared to the previous proposal of N348.71 billion.
The approval followed recommendations from the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, which were presented during Tuesday’s plenary session by its Chairman, Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, who represents Ika North-East State Constituency.

During the Committee of Supply session, presided over by Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, lawmakers reviewed the proposed bill clause by clause and the House unanimously, adopted the committee’s recommendations.
The bill was then read for the third time and passed. The motion for its passage was moved by the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Edafe Emakpor.
Commending the lawmakers, Speaker Guwor described the approved budget as aligning with global best practices and serving the collective interest of the state.
Speaking with journalists after the session, Marylyn Okowa-Daramola emphasized that the increased allocations, particularly for capital expenditure, was aimed at fostering robust infrastructural development.
She highlighted the importance of enhancing road infrastructure and advancing agricultural projects across all parts of the state.
