The Delta State House of Assembly has made headlines by approving a historic N979 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year. This marks a significant 7.3% increase from the N936 billion initially proposed by the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The approved budget includes a substantial boost to capital expenditure, which now stands at N630.5 billion, up from N587.3 billion. This allocation focuses on infrastructure, road networks, and agricultural advancements. Recurrent expenditure also saw a slight increase, rising by N50 million to N348.76 billion.
This landmark decision followed a review by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola of Ika North-East State Constituency. During Tuesday’s plenary session, the committee presented its recommendations, which were examined clause by clause under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

The House unanimously adopted the recommendations, leading to the third reading and final passage of the budget bill. The motion for passage was spearheaded by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Edafe Emakpor.
Speaker Guwor praised the lawmakers for their diligence, emphasizing that the budget aligns with global best practices and is tailored to serve Delta State’s collective interests.
Speaking to reporters, Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola shed light on the capital allocation’s intent, highlighting plans to prioritize road infrastructure and agricultural innovation. “This budget is a bold step toward ensuring Delta State’s economic growth and infrastructural transformation,” she stated.
