The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has dismissed as “baseless and fictitious” a recent report published in a national daily alleging a leadership crisis within the party, calling it a “classic case of journalistic recklessness.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., the party described the report as “a wide figment of the imagination of the writer” and reaffirmed its unity under the leadership of Elder Omeni Sobotie.

“For the purpose of clarity and to put the record straight, we state unequivocally that Delta APC is fully united, focused and solidly aligned behind the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State,” the statement read.

The APC clarified that Governor Oborevwori, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is “a fully registered and bona fide member of the All Progressives Congress,” and his defection was “momentous and widely celebrated across the political landscape of the State.”

Responding to claims in the publication that suggested the existence of a factional leadership or dissatisfaction among members, the party stressed: “There is no faction or splinter group within Delta APC. Elder Omeni Sobotie remains the duly recognized and legitimately elected Chairman of the Party in Delta State. From the ward level to the State Executive Committee, there exists only one APC structure, operating in unity and cohesion under Elder Sobotie’s leadership.”

The statement also debunked the claim that Senator Ede Dafinone expressed discontent at the APC Unity Meeting held on June 9, 2025, where Governor Oborevwori was adopted as consensus sole candidate for Delta Central.

“It smacks of journalistic irresponsibility for Mr. Felix Igbekoyi to insinuate that the distinguished senator representing the good people of Delta Central was disappointed with the organizers of the event,” the party said. “At no point during the Unity Meeting did the distinguished Senator Ede Dafinone express the purported discontent falsely attributed to him by the writer. This claim is a deliberate falsehood designed to malign the Senator and undermine the credibility of the meeting’s outcome.”

Describing the Unity Meeting as “a clear demonstration of Party unity, vision and commitment to strategic leadership,” the party emphasized that the adoption of Oborevwori was “done in accordance with the provisions of the APC Constitution which permits and encourages consensus candidacy where feasible.”

Delta APC urged the public and party faithful to disregard the publication, labeling it “a desperate and clumsy attempt by enemies of progress to distract from the growing unity and popularity of the APC in Delta State.”

“Delta APC remains committed to building a stronger and more prosperous state, guided by democratic principles, internal cohesion and respect for due process. No amount of false reportage or cheap paid propaganda can derail the collective will of our members and the people of Delta State from reaping the benefits of the M.O.R.E. Agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration,” the statement said.
