The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed the call by Hon. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, to adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 elections.
Hon. Waive, speaking to journalists on Tuesday, praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, citing his strong relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his people-oriented programs.
He argued that supporting Oborevwori would be a strategic move for the APC, ensuring unity within the party and a stronger electoral advantage.
He stated that Governor Sheriff has surprised many Deltans with his quality projects, adding that his candidacy would bring stability to the APC in Delta State.
However, in a swift reaction, the Delta APC, has distanced itself from Waive’s remarks, categorizing them as his personal opinion.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., Wednesday, maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s administration had been a “monumental disappointment” and accused him of financial recklessness despite receiving over ₦2 trillion in federal allocations.
The statement read in part: “Hon. Waive’s position does not reflect the stance of Delta APC, its leadership, or its members. Governor Oborevwori’s tenure has been characterized by a lack of developmental progress, and the people of Delta State deserve a credible alternative in 2027.”

Reaffirming its commitment to unseating the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC stressed that it would field a candidate through a transparent and competitive process. It assured its members and the public that its choice would reflect the aspirations of Deltans who are eager for change.
“We urge our members and the general public to disregard Hon. Waive’s statement,” the party declared, emphasizing its resolve to “rescue Delta State from the shackles of PDP’s misrule.”
With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the Delta APC remains firm in its stance against adopting Oborevwori, positioning itself as the party to lead Delta State toward what it describes as “real progress, accountability, and development.”
