As 2023 draws closer, the battle for the soul of Delta state gets more interesting with ex-Attorney General of the state, Dr. Peter Mrakpor SAN declaring his intention for the gubernatorial seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mrakpor, who is from Ughelli South LGA and chieftain of the PDP, was unveiled as a distinctive governorship aspirant on Wednesday 16th February, 2022, at a high level gathering at his Country home in Edjophe town.

Before his official declaration, the Delta Central 2023 lobby group, DC-23, led by Chief Ighoyota Amori had submitted a trimmed list of gubernatorial aspirants from the Delta Central for consideration by PDP State leadership as governorship candidate of the party.

They include the trio of former Chief of Staff to the state governor, David Edevbie, former Minister of , Kenneth Gbagi and current Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori

There was an assumption that the final list of the DC-23 would dose down tension and narrow the search for a possible successor of Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa in the Delta Central senatorial district to Edevbie, Gbagi or Oborevwori.

The entrance of Mrakpor has, however, appears to have changed the narrative. The ex-Attorney General is a grassroot politician and an unalloyed loyalist of Governor Okowa.

Some sources that pleaded anonymity told The Trumpet that Mrakpor is a last minute game changer of Governor Okowa, who has disagreed with former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori over his anointed candidate, David Edevbie.

While speaking during his declaration, Dr. Mrakpor, who spoke glowingly to supporters, said he desire to serve his people of Ughelli South and Delta State at Dennis Osadebey House as a worthy ambassador of Delta State in 2023.

He reiterated that there is an urgency of the moment to secure the future of Delta State by strongly building on the present success of the Okowa Administration in which he is a critical insider and participant.

Mrakpor further revealed that the next Governor of Delta State must be pan delta in all ramifications, adding that no other aspirant in the PDP can match his experience in governance and loyalty in Delta State.

The declaration was celebrated amid dancing and singing by delegates who revealed how much they have waited for the formal declaration of Mrakpor, thereby assuring him of their total support for his gubernatorial campaign tagged “Divine Light 2023”.

This was followed by streams of prayers by supporters, declaring that the light indeed has come and every darkness will subsequently disappear.

The love shown by supporters on the day of declaration of Mrakpor to serve Delta state, has once again revealed that Dr Peter Adogbejire Mrakpor SAN has emerged to cause a disruption in the Delta State PDP primary election ahead of the 2023 governorship poll in the state.
