Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu has condemned what he sees as the unnecessary trend of wealthy Nigerians traveling abroad to spend money, arguing that celebrating and investing in Nigeria is a more sensible choice.
Momodu shared his views during a conversation with Davido’s aide, Israel DMW, where they both concurred that Nigeria is a comfortable and suitable place for the affluent to enjoy their wealth.
He described the environment as “very conducive” and pointed out that many rich Nigerians often travel to “quiet, unknown places” overseas simply to flaunt their wealth, rather than enjoying what their home country has to offer.
Israel DMW supported his perspective, asserting that staying in Nigeria is preferable to going abroad just to spend money.
Momodu expressed concern over the high costs associated with international travel, particularly airfares, which he noted can range from N5 million to N10 million.
He questioned the logic behind such expenditures, suggesting that the same amount could have a more significant impact if invested in local communities.

“I’m tired of traveling,” Momodu stated, emphasizing that spending large sums on tickets is unnecessary.
He argued that redirecting that money to support villages or spending it locally would be far more beneficial.
Israel DMW reacted with surprise at the mentioned figures and agreed that Nigeria provides ample comfort for leisure and celebration without the need for international trips.
The discussion has since generated online reactions, with many Nigerians agreeing that investing in local tourism and communities is a more worthwhile use of wealth than lavish foreign vacations.
