Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has been released from custody after meeting the bail conditions set by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti. Farotimi, who was detained earlier this month over allegations of defaming Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, is now en route to his home in Lagos.
The activist’s release was confirmed on Tuesday morning, marking the end of his brief incarceration. His bail conditions included a bond of ₦30 million, two sureties—one of whom must own property—the submission of his passport, and a ban on granting media interviews.

Farotimi’s arrest and subsequent release have drawn widespread attention, with many activists and legal professionals weighing in on the implications of his case. His ordeal highlights ongoing debates around freedom of speech and the legal consequences of public statements in Nigeria.
