In a heated political development, the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, led by Senator Ighoyota Amori, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the House of Representatives seat occupied by Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu vacant. This demand follows her defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking calls for a by-election to fill the perceived void.
The forum made this declaration during its inaugural meeting in Asaba, Delta State’s capital, where party leaders expressed their determination to reclaim the seat. According to Senator Amori, Ibori-Suenu’s defection nullifies her mandate as a PDP representative. He emphasized that any official duties or functions she performs under the APC banner hold no legitimacy, referencing a court affidavit she previously deposed, agreeing to vacate her seat in the event of defection.
“Today marks the first meeting of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Leaders Forum, and we have resolved to reclaim the party’s seat at the House of Representatives,” Amori stated. “Her defection from the PDP to the APC is a breach of trust and a clear violation of constitutional provisions. The seat is now vacant, and we are prepared to take legal action to ensure it is rightfully returned to the PDP.”
Amori didn’t mince words regarding the future of Ibori-Suenu’s political career, calling her move to the APC “an exercise in futility” and asserting that it signals the end of her political relevance. He reminded the public of PDP’s dominance in Delta State since 1999, dismissing the APC as a party with no substantial presence beyond social media chatter.

He further remarked, “Delta is PDP, and PDP is Delta. The party has been the backbone of the state’s governance and will remain so. By 2027, PDP will once again secure the governorship and other key political positions. Hon. Ibori-Suenu’s decision to align with the APC is inconsequential and demonstrates a lack of political foresight.”
Amori accused the APC of offering nothing substantive to Delta State, branding the defection as a betrayal of the party that nurtured Ibori-Suenu’s political rise. “PDP made her what she is today. This defection is not just a loss for her; it’s a statement about loyalty, and we will prove that Delta State is and will remain a PDP stronghold,” he declared.
The PDP Forum’s call for INEC to act swiftly to enable them reclaim their constitutional mandates.
This latest development is a clear indication of the growing tension between the 2 leading political parties in Delta State as the battle for 2027 begins.
