Anambra Queens Volleyball Club have won their first match since the National Division One League started last week Friday, May 13, at the indoor sports hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The eastern volleyball team, who are debutants, after losing their first two matches against Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers and Life Camp Volleyball Club, recovered with a straight three-set win against Bayonet Spikers of Kaduna in their third fixture.
In a statement by the coach of Anambra Queens, Uche Okafor, the team was hurriedly put together to expose the young players to a competitive tournament.
He conceded that despite Anambra Queens having a scrappy start that resulted in their two defeats, they are determined to dismantle any team that comes along their way.
Okafor said that the environment affected the players in one way or the other noting that this is the first time they have played the sport indoors.
He added that the team comprises students from secondary schools and higher institutions. “This is our first appearance in the Division One League.
This is the first time they are playing indoor games,” Okafor told NAN after the match.
“It’s the will of God, I am happy. It’s not that we are fully prepared but we are determined. We are happy about this victory because we lost our previous matches.
“Some of them are still in secondary schools and some are in higher institutions. I decided to select them to come and expose them for this type of tournament.

“This is the first time playing indoor games and some have been travelling to the FCT before. I just decided to choose the set of players that are still young and full of discipline and ready to play according to the instructions given to them.
Now we have learnt from our mistakes and we will win all our subsequent matches,” he added.
