Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, billionaire businessman and father of global music star Davido, has claimed that his ventures currently generate 15% of Nigeria’s total electricity supply.
Speaking at the 2024 Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council, Adeleke highlighted his pivotal role in Nigeria’s power sector and announced the near-completion of his latest groundbreaking project.
Adeleke revealed that he is on the verge of completing a 1,250-megawatt power plant, which is set to become the largest thermal power plant in Nigeria. The project, valued at approximately $2 billion, is expected to go live in January 2025, significantly boosting the country’s electricity generation capacity.
“I generate presently about 15 percent of Nigeria’s electricity needs,” Adeleke said, adding that his company operates multiple power plants across the country. “We are building what will soon be the biggest thermal power plant in Nigeria, with a capacity of 1,250 megawatts. It will be operational in January.”
Despite facing challenges, including resistance from a government official who tried to block the project, Adeleke credited the success of his venture to divine intervention.

“One government official tried to stop us, saying our project would never see the light of day, but I knew that only God has the final say,” Adeleke shared. “Through prayer and determination, we were able to push forward. Now, we’re almost done.”
The billionaire businessman further explained how his Chinese partners, including engineering firms and Afrexim Bank of China, were initially worried about the project’s delay due to regulatory setbacks. However, Adeleke remained confident, assuring them that the project would succeed through faith and perseverance.
“While my Chinese partners were concerned about potential bankruptcy, I told them not to worry. I knew that with the help of God, this project would be completed,” he said.
