Afrobeats star Davido is facing new legal challenges as a lawyer based in Lagos has filed a ₦1 billion defamation claim following a contentious court session in his custody battle with Sophie Momodu.
The artist, whose real name is David Adeleke, initiated a lawsuit in April 2024 at the Lagos High Court seeking joint custody of his daughter, Imade.
The case has garnered significant public attention due to the prominent figures involved and reportedly took a dramatic turn during a hearing on February 12, 2026.
Sources close to the proceedings indicated that tensions heightened during the February hearing, with exchanges in court described as heated.
That evening, Davido allegedly expressed his frustration on social media.
In a series of posts, the singer shared images of Sophie Momodu’s lawyer, Ebelechukwu Enedah, along with pointed criticism.

He also tagged individuals believed to be associated with her, which quickly increased the visibility of his posts.
The content went viral within hours, igniting intense discussions online.
In a formal notice dated February 24, 2026, Enedah accused Davido of defamation, asserting that his posts subjected her to threats, harassment, and significant harm to her professional reputation.
The notice demands a public apology to be shared across Davido’s social media platforms and an immediate retraction of the allegedly defamatory posts.
The letter warns that failure to comply with these demands will lead to legal action. As of this report, Davido has not publicly responded to the claim.
The situation has sparked widespread reactions on social media, particularly on X, where both fans and critics have voiced their opinions.
While some supporters defended the singer’s right to express his frustrations during a sensitive custody battle, others advised against public outbursts, especially during ongoing litigation.
In the meantime, Davido was recently seen enjoying a vacation in Hawaii with his wife, Chioma Adeleke, which led to playful comments from fans referencing his well-known “30 Billion Gang” nickname in relation to the substantial ₦1 billion demand.
Legal experts note that defamation cases in Nigeria require proof that statements were false, damaging, and made without lawful justification.
If the case proceeds to court, it could mark another significant legal chapter for the award-winning artist.
For now, all eyes are on whether the dispute will be settled privately through an apology and agreement or escalate into a full defamation lawsuit alongside the ongoing custody case.
As the seven-day deadline approaches, the focus remains on one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars.
