Afrobeats sensation Davido has declared that he is dropping his custody case, clarifying that he never intended to pursue full custody of his daughter, Imade, but rather a shared custody arrangement.
The case pertains to Imade Adeleke, his daughter with Sophia Momodu. Davido and Sophia were in a relationship in 2015 and welcomed Imade on May 14, 2015.
In 2024, Davido filed a motion at the Lagos High Court requesting “unrestricted access” to Imade. In her response, Sophia contended that she has never prevented Davido from seeing their daughter.
On Friday, the singer took to his X account to address the narrative surrounding the legal dispute, stating that he never sought full custody of Imade.
He expressed confusion over why some people were celebrating the results of a recent court session, stressing that there were no winners in this situation.
“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody,” he stated.
“Nobody won, nobody lost… so I don’t know why some people are celebrating… there’s nothing to celebrate.”
Davido explained that his choice to withdraw the case was influenced by an inappropriate moment in court.
He expressed confidence in his legal stance but noted that the proceedings took a painful turn when the opposing lawyer made a comment about his deceased son, which he deemed unacceptable.
“I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was challenging that lawyer in the courtroom… she became so frustrated… until she played her last card — my deceased son. That’s a no no! Lowest blow!” he shared.

Davido and his wife, Chioma Adeleke, welcomed twins in October 2023 in the United States, a year after the tragic loss of their first child, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
In his tweet, the award-winning artist added that despite ending the legal battle, his daughter would eventually understand his efforts.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on. One love,” he concluded.
In 2023, Sophia had announced her intention to change Imade’s surname to hers, asserting that she has been both mother and father to her.
