Afrobeats superstar Davido has alleged that his December Lagos concert is under threat of cancellation following his controversial comments on Nigeria’s economy during an appearance on the American podcast Big Homies House.

In the podcast, the singer had advised Americans against relocating to Nigeria, describing the nation’s economy as being in “shambles.” These remarks ignited widespread criticism, with prominent figures like Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri accusing him of tarnishing Nigeria’s image.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account to address the backlash, Davido doubled down on his stance, describing entertainers like himself as the true ambassadors of the country. “Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!” he wrote.

In a follow-up post, the singer claimed that there were efforts to disrupt his Lagos show, stating, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”

The comments have sparked heated debates online. While some fans defended Davido’s right to express his opinion, others criticized his remarks, calling them reckless and damaging to the country’s global image.
Social media platforms have been buzzing with reactions. Supporters applauded Davido for his boldness, while critics urged him to be more considerate in his statements.

One user, @justtruth001, lamented, “Nigeria wey no dey bring money… they should eat their country.” Another, @JbrandyOfficial, dismissed the alleged threats, declaring, “Bros you go perform o… Nobody fit cancel 001.”

Others, however, took a more critical tone. @paulnyk45 wrote, “This school wey you no finish true true dey affect you, what did you just type?” Similarly, @it_Rutie offered a more measured response: “I understand that you may not have considered Nigeria’s economy at that time, but I kindly ask that in the future, you take the country’s welfare into account before responding.”

Despite the controversy, Davido’s loyal fan base remains firmly behind him, with many expressing excitement for the December show. Whether the concert will proceed as planned amidst the ongoing uproar remains to be seen.
