The Dangote Group has firmly denied ownership of the truck involved in a fatal accident at Akungba-Akoko in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, describing viral reports linking the vehicle to the company as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company said thorough investigations and verified registration records revealed that the vehicle in question does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.
“The company wishes to make it categorically clear that the truck involved in the unfortunate incident does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries,” the statement read.
According to the clarification, the truck, identified by Plate Number JJJ 365 XB, is owned and operated by an independent logistics firm with no affiliation to Dangote Industries. The company further explained that the vehicle was not transporting any of its products, but was carrying crushed stones in used sacks that bore various brand names.
Dangote Group also reiterated that all its genuine trucks are properly branded, tracked, and managed under strict safety and operational guidelines. “Dangote Industries maintains a rigorous policy on fleet management and vehicle identification, ensuring all company trucks carry clear branding, fleet numbers, and are operated by trained personnel in full compliance with safety regulations,” the statement added.
The company emphasized that any truck lacking its official branding or tracking system should not be associated with the Group. It also cautioned media outlets and social media users against sharing misleading images or unverified information that could tarnish its reputation.

While expressing deep sympathy for victims of the crash, the Dangote Group urged journalists and the public to confirm details before attributing ownership or involvement to the company. “We deeply sympathize with all those affected by this unfortunate incident,” it said. “However, we urge the public and the media to verify facts before linking any vehicle or accident to Dangote Industries.”
The Group also warned against the use of images of Dangote-branded trucks in unrelated accident reports, describing such practice as unprofessional and damaging. It reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible corporate citizenship across Nigeria and other countries where it operates.
