Dangote Cement Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving full self-sufficiency in cement production across Africa, aiming to eliminate the continent’s reliance on imported cement.
During a briefing on the company’s expansion initiatives throughout Africa, Arvind Pathak, the Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, highlighted the company’s plans to increase investments in various African nations to address supply shortages and support significant infrastructure projects.
“Our vision is straightforward,” he stated. “Africa needs to produce enough cement to satisfy its own requirements. Through expansion, efficiency, and robust distribution, Dangote Cement is contributing to growth across the continent.”
Pathak emphasized that Dangote Cement is the leading cement producer in Africa, targeting a production capacity of 90 million metric tonnes annually by 2030.
He also pointed out that the company has successfully transformed Nigeria from a cement-importing nation to a net exporter to neighboring countries.

Currently, Dangote Cement operates in multiple African countries, with cement plants, grinding facilities, and distribution centers strategically located in key markets.
The company is also enhancing its plants, increasing capacity, and implementing energy-efficient technologies to lower costs and minimize environmental impact.
Discussing the long-term vision, Aliko Dangote, the founder and President of Dangote Cement, stated that Africa possesses all the necessary resources to produce its own cement.
“Africa has no justification for relying on cement imports,” Dangote remarked. “We have the raw materials and the workforce. Our objective is to make quality cement affordable and accessible throughout the continent.
This approach will create jobs and foster sustainable development.”
He added that Dangote Cement’s investments are aimed at promoting industrial growth and enhancing Africa’s competitiveness on a global scale.
With rising demand for cement driven by infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and housing across Africa, the company believes that its efforts towards self-sufficiency will help stabilize prices and support long-term development.
Dangote Cement Plc continues to be Africa’s largest cement producer, with operations in various countries and a strong emphasis on expansion, innovation, and sustainability.
