Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated four trailblazing Nigerians who recently secured major political victories in the United Kingdom.
The NiDCOM boss described their achievements as historic milestones that underscore the excellence, resilience, and determination of Nigerians in the diaspora.
The honourees, Dr. Adekunle Osibogun, Princess Opeyemi Bright, Councillor Jason Utitofon Jackson, and Councillor Sunny Lambe, have all distinguished themselves by winning key positions in recent UK local government elections.
Their victories not only affirm their leadership capabilities but also represent a significant step forward in increasing diversity and representation within British politics.
In a press statement released by Mr. Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Dabiri-Erewa offered glowing commendations and heartfelt congratulations to the new office holders.
She especially lauded the achievements of Princess Opeyemi Bright and Jason Utitofon Jackson, describing their milestones as record-breaking.
Princess Bright has become the youngest ever Mayor of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, while Jackson has made history as the first black person to be elected Mayor of the Borough of Islington.
Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the election of Sunny Lambe as the new Mayor of Southwark, highlighting his years of outstanding service and contribution to his borough.

In addition, she praised Dr. Adekunle Osibogun for securing re-election as councillor in both the Buckinghamshire Council and the Buckingham Town Council, an affirmation of the trust and confidence placed in him by his constituents.

She also urged them to remain ambassadors of Nigeria, demonstrating leadership that inspires the next generation of African and diaspora youth.
