The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have disclosed partnership towards the facilitation of trade across west African countries.
This was disclosed on Friday when the Head of the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme Task Force (ETLS/TF), Mohamed Ibn Chambas and his team members, visited the Customs HQ, Abuja to facilitate mediation towards resolving the complications in the movement of ECOWAS-originating products in transit through the borders of the Republic of Benin.
In his remarks, the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) affirmed his support towards easing the bottleneck to free movement of goods in line with dictates of the ECOWAS agreement.

Trade and economic integration are at the heart of the ECOWAS. The main tool of the ECOWAS Free Trade Area (FTA) is the Economic Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS), targeted at internal trade. This internal market liberalisation scheme dates back to 1983 but is not being fully implemented.
The partnership between NCS and ECOWAS is expected to break the jinx and make movement of goods in West Africa more easier.
