The Nigeria Customs Service Board has sanctioned the appointment of new management members and granted special promotions during its 64th regular meeting.
Spokesperson for the customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.
Maiwada noted that the board, led by Finance Minister Wale Edun, confirmed the appointments of five deputy comptroller-generals and eight assistant comptroller-generals.
The statement explained that the actions align with the statutory requirements and the federal character policy as outlined in Section 14(4) of the NCS Act, 2023, following the retirement of several senior officers.
Those promoted to deputy comptroller-general include Baba Imam (North-East), Isah Umar (North-West), Tijjani Abe (North-West), Timi Bomodi (South-South), and Oluyomi Adebakin (South-West).
The newly appointed assistant comptroller-generals are C.G. Ogbonna (South-East), I. Abba-Aji (North-East), G.M. Haruna (South-South), E.J. Edelduok (South-South), G. Gaura (North-West), I. Isyaku (North-West), M.S. Shuaibu (North-Central), and M.D. Malah (North-East).

The statement further emphasized that the promotions demonstrate the board’s ongoing commitment to improving policy implementation, compliance management, and operational efficiency, and are expected to enhance strategic leadership across customs divisions.
Maiwada also mentioned that the board approved special promotions for 10 officers who have exhibited exceptional professionalism, leadership, and outstanding service.
The promoted officers include A.C. Fanyam, G.M. Shidali, S. Omofoma, O.A. Oladepo, A.Y. Musa, and A. Ogboru.
Others are A.A. Maiwada, C.N. Essien, H. Aliyu, and A.S. Shofadekan.
The board added that the special promotion category recognized officers whose contributions have significantly enhanced operations in their respective commands and units, thereby positively impacting national revenue and security.
The spokesman reiterated that the appointments and promotions are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership succession, boost morale, and ensure the service effectively addresses emerging trade, security, and administrative challenges.
