A peaceful funeral ceremony turned into a scene of horror in Okuni community, Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, as a violent clash between two rival cult groups, the Klans and the Vikings, left one man dead in a brutal and shocking execution.

The victim, identified as Alobi Nsor, a known member of the Klans confraternity, was gunned down in broad daylight during a burial ceremony held to mourn the mother of a fellow cult member. What was meant to be a solemn occasion quickly descended into chaos when masked gunmen, believed to be members of the rival Vikings group, stormed the venue dressed in women’s skirts and gowns, catching everyone off guard.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers emerged silently and fired a single, fatal shot to Nsor’s head before vanishing into the surrounding bush, leaving behind a scene of terror and confusion. The cold-blooded nature of the killing has sent shockwaves across Okuni, plunging the entire community into fear and uncertainty.

Locals, visibly shaken, now speak in hushed tones, terrified of what may come next. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” one elderly man said, his voice trembling as he pleaded for anonymity. “It’s as if a curse has been cast on our land.”

Residents say the murder, which took place in the presence of mourners, is nothing short of sacrilege. Many fear the incident may spark a fresh wave of retaliatory attacks, plunging the community into a full-blown cult war. Tension continues to rise as families shut their doors earlier than usual, and youth avoid gathering in groups, wary of being mistaken for members of either faction.

The situation in Okuni remains dangerously volatile, as the community braces for what could be an escalation of bloodshed. Security operatives are yet to issue an official statement, but locals are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further violence and restore peace to the once quiet town.
