A federal High Court sitting in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, has directed the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, to stop parading herself as the party’s flag bearer for the state.
The directive which came yesterday while delivering judgment was also observed to have disqualified the party’s candidate.
It would be recalled that the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu who also aspired for the governorship ticket of the party, dragged Binani to the federal High court following the outcome of the party’s governorship primary.
Ribadu who was not pleased with the outcome of the primary prayed the court to nullify the exercise which he said was characterized by irregularities.
Ribadu dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside the female candidate, asked the court to stop her from going about parading herself as the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 election.

In his motion of notice, The Trumpet gathered that Ribadu, who did not only seek for the nullification of the primary election conducted on the 27th of May 2022 but also seek for the immediate disqualification of Binani, who was declared winner of the exercise.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, A.M Anka, ruled that the primary election was void because of the issue of over-voting and fielding of delegates from Lamurde local government where a congress was alleged not to have been conducted.
The ruling, according to the judge passed based on substantial none compliance with party guidelines and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria by the party.
Though the counsels of the two parties could not be reached at the time of filing this report, our correspondent, however, gathered that Binani would be filing an appeal against the court ruling.
Like the neighbouring state of Taraba, APC in Adamawa state, at the moment, has no governorship candidate for the forthcoming elections.
