A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Apo has remanded a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Mr. Jubrin Buba, at the Kuje Correctional Facility for failing to appear in court over ongoing forgery allegations brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
The NSCDC officer is facing trial on charges of forging a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree certificate in public administration, allegedly issued by the University of Jos and dated October 7, 2009.
The ICPC alleges that Mr. Buba used the forged certificate in 2015 to secure employment with the NSCDC, according to Demola Bakare, the agency’s spokesperson, in a statement on Monday.
Demola asserted that Buba’s action violates Section 366 of the Penal Code and is punishable under Section 364 for presenting a forged document.
The case initially began in 2022 before Justice Asma’u Akanbi of the FCT High Court in Kubwa, who granted the defendant bail on liberal terms.
However, following the judge’s elevation to the Court of Appeal, the matter was reassigned for a fresh trial (de novo) before Justice Binta Dogonyaro of FCT High Court 46, Apo.

Mr. Buba reportedly failed to appear in court for his arraignment on the newly scheduled date of January 22, 2025, despite having received official notice through his counsel.
His continued absence led to the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest, and was eventually apprehended and re-arraigned on June 26, 2025.
At the resumed proceedings, the court revoked his bail and ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Kuje, Abuja.
The case has been adjourned to October 27 and 28, 2025, for hearing.
