Justice Rosemary Oshoghorie of the Federal High Court 2, Calabar, Cross River State, has ordered the remand of six suspects at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Afokang, over the kidnap and murder of a University of Calabar (UNICAL) professor and others.

The suspects are Patrick Etim, Etim Eyo, Anthony Etim, Bassey Asuquo, Isaac Ekpenyong, Ekpeyong Eyo, and Imoh Udofa.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on various dates, between December 2025 and January 2026, following investigations into a series of kidnappings and criminal activities within Calabar and its environs.

The court ordered their remand in correctional custody pending advice from the state director of public prosecutions, while the case is adjourned to April 21, 2026.

The suspects are linked to the kidnapping and death of Prof. Ekanem Ephraim of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), as well as the kidnappings of Mrs. Eme Daniel, Dr. Roland Ipuole, Francis Kibe, and James Osim.

They are also being held over allegations of multiple instances of vandalism of public electrical infrastructure in Calabar.
