An Abakaliki Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Chief Magistrate Nnenna Ogodo has remanded four suspects at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre for assault and attempted murder.
The accused persons are Egwuonwu Jonah, Sunday Obasi, Ogonnaya Eze, Godwin Nwokoro-Obi and others now at large, were arraigned on a 10-count charge of conspiracy, attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous harm and armed robbery.
The arraigned suspects and others now at large, were alleged to have on February 21, 2025, at Mebi-Okpa Okposi Ohaozara, Ebonyi State, physically assaulted and attempted to kill one Nnenna Nwinyinya and Jonah Chuku, including parading the woman half naked around the community, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 320 (1) of the Criminal Code of Ebonyi State, 2009.
The suspects were also accused of intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous harm to their victims, by subjecting them to drink water used in washing the private parts of a deceased person and other concoctions, contrary to Section 332 (5) of the Criminal Code of Ebonyi State, 2009.

They were further accused of willfully destroying five Alumaco windows, two iron doors and one wooden door, among other property belonging to Nnenna Nwinyinya, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 451 of the Criminal Code of Ebonyi State, 2009.
Similarly, the accused persons allegedly destroyed the chairs, beds, plates, pots, three houses, and cartons of beer, including burning a motorcycle belonging to Jonah Chuku, contrary to Section 451 of the Criminal Code of Ebonyi State, 2009.
The presiding magistrate, after due consideration of the 10-count charge, declined jurisdiction over the case.
She adjourned the case to May 9, 2025, for compliance by the state director of public prosecution.
