Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, along with his wife, Asabe Bashir, and their son, Abdulaziz Malami, have been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja in connection with an ongoing money laundering trial.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, in a ruling delivered on Friday, set bail at ₦200 million for each defendant, requiring two sureties of equal value. One of the sureties must present proof of ownership of a property in either Maitama or Asokoro, two of the capital’s most high-end districts.

The court also mandated that the Malami family surrender their international passports and remain under the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service until all bail conditions are fully met. The trial has been scheduled to commence on March 16, 2026.
Malami, who served as Nigeria’s chief legal officer under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and related offenses.
The case is expected to attract significant public and legal attention as proceedings begin, highlighting ongoing efforts to hold high-profile figures accountable for financial misconduct in Nigeria.
