The Delta State government has dismissed reports of a rift between members of the State Executive Council, describing them as false and a deliberate attempt to distract the administration from its development agenda.

Briefing journalists in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said claims that commissioners were fighting were fabricated by those unable to fault Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance.

“Since they cannot attack the governor on performance, they are resorting to falsehood,” Aniagwu said.

“There was no fight between commissioners, and nobody in government has blamed the administration for anything. These stories are baseless and never happened.”

He explained that the government has remained focused on projects and empowerment programmes despite the distractions.

According to him, several initiatives, including the RYSA programme under the Ministry of Youth, the MORE Biz-Up programme, the Women Empowerment Scheme, ICT training, and girl-child support initiatives, are ongoing to cushion economic hardship and create opportunities for citizens.

Aniagwu also highlighted the recently launched widows’ welfare scheme, which pays beneficiaries ₦15,000 monthly alongside health insurance coverage.

He noted that each of the 10,000 widows enrolled received ₦45,000 upfront at the commencement of the programme, representing three months in arrears.

The commissioner assured that more empowerment programmes would roll out from October as the rains receded, enabling the government to channel funds into ventures that will strengthen the local economy and boost the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

On infrastructure, Aniagwu listed major projects such as the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction flyover in Agbor, the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover in Ughelli, the N35 billion Effurun-Sapele Road dualisation, and other supplementary road interventions across the state.

He said other works, including roads in Warri, Abraka, and Asaba, as well as school rehabilitation projects, were being executed based on needs assessment to ensure value for money.

Aniagwu reaffirmed that the Gov. Oborevwori administration remains committed to the MORE Agenda, insisting it will not be distracted by discordant voices from individuals bent on misinforming the public.
