Students of the Ondo State College of Health Technology, Akure, on Monday took to the streets to protest alleged extortion and the deteriorating state of facilities within the institution.
The protesting students gathered at the school’s main entrance, blocked access to the campus, and reportedly set tyres on fire while chanting solidarity songs, bringing academic activities to a standstill.
The students insisted that lectures and examinations would not resume until the school management addressed what they described as prolonged neglect and financial exploitation.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the protesters lamented the poor condition of classrooms, hostels, and laboratories, as well as the persistent shortage of potable water on campus.

Some of the students accused the authorities of imposing what they termed “unwarranted fees” despite the deplorable state of infrastructure, arguing that the charges could not be justified.
They further claimed that repeated complaints and appeals to the management had yielded no response, forcing them to embark on the protest as a last resort to draw attention to their grievances.
